VN-Index is the main stock market index of Vietnam, tracking all stocks on Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE). Started at 100 points on July 28, 2000.

Definition

VN-Index is a market-cap weighted average of all stocks listed on HOSE. The barometer of Vietnam's stock market — when VN-Index rises, most HOSE stocks are rising.

VCB, VHM, BID, FPT, CTG, GAS, MSN, VIC, VPB, HPG — comprise ~55% of total HOSE market cap. These 5 mega-caps drive VN-Index direction.

Historical Highlights

2007: peak 1170 points before global crisis. 2009: bottom 235. 2018: first time above 1200. 2022: peak 1530 before crash. 2024: recovered to 1300. 2025-26: trading 1250-1400 range.
